Etymology of Arsenic

அரசன் (arasaṉ) [Tamil] n. 1. Blue vitriol; துருசு. (மூ. அ.) 2. A mineral poison; கார்முகிற் பாசாணம். (W.) 3. A prepared arsenic; வாணகெந்த கம். (W.)

In Tamil அரசன் (arasaṉ) means king. Arsenic is called as the “Poison of Kings”. As it was used throughout  history as a potent poison to kill off kings and emperors and facilitate rich inheritances.  Nero used it to murder his stepbrother, Britannicus, so as he might  become Emperor of Rome.

Therefore Arsenic is called as அரசன் (arasaṉ) in Tamil.

கோன் (kōṉ) [Tamil] n. 1. King; அரசன். 2. Master, lord; தலைவன். உண்மை யுமா யின்மையுமாய்க் கோனாகி (திருவாச. 5, 15).

 In Tamil, அரசன் (arasaṉ) and கோன் (kōṉ) denote king.

 Accordingly the words are formed.
